What our guest says about us

"Dear Lesley

Now that the dust has settled after all our guests have returned to their four points of the compass, it is time to take stock.  All were agreed that our meal at The Star was the highpoint.  The comfortable informality, charming ambience, discreet & efficient service and good food for all palates was a winning combination.  Many thanks to you, your chef, and your staff for a very successful evening."  Mr D R

To Director of Publications “Which?”  etc,

I have a recommendation for an entry to one of our books – either the Good Food Guide if you still have it or any section on small hotels in the Hotels or Pub Guides.  This is for a tiny place in idyllic surroundings near the Test Valley in Hampshire – the “Star” at East Tytherley.

I understand it came under new ownership about three yeas ago.  It is very well managed, tidy and neat in the traditional fashion  - but the main point is the food which is cooked by the proprietor’s son, Justin.  This young man is an exquisitely able chef with, seemingly, all the arts at his command – his croissants are as good as his scallops, which would take some beating.  The prices are restrained and the menu is very well chosen and balanced, as is the wine list.

To add to the joy, there is a splendid rural cricket ground in the field behind and hardly another dwelling for a quarter of a mile!  I strongly suggest that our people have a look at the place.

"Dear Lesley

Many thanks to you and your staff for making us so welcome.

I'm sorry it was such a short stay, but we were very comfortable and the food was excellent.

I'm so glad that Paddy Burt wrote that article in the Telegraph otherwise we would never have heard of you!  We will certainly pass on your address." Mr & Mrs P
